00:10:50 Donna Dhoostelaere: What are our obligations to employees who are afraid to return to work? Do we have to keep the jobs? Do we have to offer FMLA? 00:14:04 Donna Dhoostelaere: In Arizona, we've been advised to do offer letters that state salary by payroll--not by year. 00:14:16 Anna Langstaff: staff members signed contracts for 2020-21 prior to COVID. Is it too late to change language? Can we have them sign new contracts with updated terms? 00:14:32 Danielle Benge: What if you are in an At Will state? 00:15:35 Tina Patel: Is waiver of liability worth doing? Do they hold up in court? 00:15:50 Laurel Zolfonoon: new EEC regs may require additional staff - to cover (a lot more) absences, to implement health and safety protorcols. We don't know how much time this requires (10 hours? 30? 40?). What are schools doing? 00:18:48 Valerie Olson: if our families already signed out old contracts do we need to have them sign an addendum with a distance learning or pandemic clause? 00:19:33 Kelly Pitoscia-Legiec: Second Valerie’s question ew addendum to parent contract 00:21:31 Dena Stoneman: From the California Employers Association I understood an employee can be furloughed and continue benefit (not requiring final wages, etc...) until the date employer sets (i.e. June 1). Not true? Only 10 days allowed? 00:21:52 Laura Delgado: Adding to that, what kind of clause do I need to add to enrollment contracts moving forward to protect our business financially? Can we require parents to pay even with repeated closures as long as we provide supplementary services? 00:22:03 Anne DeMott: yes, I am also wondering about how to handle enrollment paperwork that families will complete for next year in terms of payments—for private schools 00:22:12 beata skorusa: Can you use the employee's PTO time during the closure? 00:24:55 Susan Tracy: Can we amend enrollment contract for parents if there is no amendment statement in contract for next year that is already signed? If there is not force majeure stated. 00:25:42 Pari Schacht: What if they live with someone who is at-risk? 00:26:07 Carey Logan: Is there uniform Pandemic language Clause that we can use for Parent and Employee Contracts? 00:26:12 Melanie Newhouse: That isn't why people are afraid--usually it is because they live with someone who has an underlying health condition 00:26:33 Pari Schacht: agreed 00:26:43 Monica MacDonald: please repeat ….there was no sound??? 00:27:03 Monica MacDonald: what about a child at home at high risk…not the employee? 00:27:50 Laura Delgado: Second Carey Logan’s question!!! 00:27:52 Melanie Newhouse: What about employees who are older than 65 so they don't have a disability-but they are high risk 00:29:23 Kristina Fox: Can we get her to talk about language for contracts that haven't yet been sigend that leaves options for if COVED requires closure? 00:29:53 Jim Fitzpatrick: This is so complex, it seems a labor-relations attorney is vital, yes? 00:30:20 Kasim Aslam: Jim - that seems to be the take home message for me too. Everyone's situation is so specific. 00:30:27 Monica MacDonald: can we have them sign a waiver of liability? 00:31:21 AMITABH SHARMA: what if a child contracts infection and goes after the school.. what is the protection for school? 00:31:43 Dee Hirsch: If someone from work is out with Covid-19 you must assume people at work could have been exposed and follow guidelines for deep cleaning and protective measures. 00:31:51 Brent Berdick - Wheaton Montessori School: what is a student get's COVID 00:31:58 Brent Berdick - Wheaton Montessori School: if 00:32:13 Brent Berdick - Wheaton Montessori School: student 00:32:20 Brent Berdick - Wheaton Montessori School: customer 00:33:33 beata skorusa: Again, sorry to repeat …. can we use an employee's PTO when paying salaries? 00:34:55 AMITABH SHARMA: can the school be held liable if a student has covid and it affects staff or other children??? 00:35:20 Kasim Aslam: Amitabh - she just answered that with a soft "no" - it's worth reviewing the recording on that one. 00:36:22 Jim Fitzpatrick: So…back in the day (90s) we had a family who wanted to enroll their child who had AIDS, we danced around but said, “Sorry” they claimed they were going to sue, turns out it was a bluff…a COVID student/child/parent, can we say gently, “Go away”? 00:36:30 Lise Riet-Lague: Is this call just specific to employment law? Can we discuss school contracts? 00:36:35 Christiane Leitinger: Thanks so much for sharing your professional wisdom Leigh Anne! 00:36:38 Kasim Aslam: http://www.weissbrown.com/meet-the-team/#leigh-anne-ciccarelli 00:36:47 Anna Langstaff: Thank you! So helpful ! 00:36:51 Pari Schacht: Thank you! 00:36:59 Brooke Ferrand: Thank you 00:37:05 Alice O'Neill: So helpful, thank you!! 00:37:05 beata skorusa: thank you! 00:37:12 sally amagai: Thank you Leigh Anne! 00:37:14 Diane Lanci: Thank you very much for this! 00:37:16 Angelica Costello: Thank you for your help 00:37:17 Anne DeMott: Thank you so much! 00:37:24 Monica MacDonald: Thank you so so much.... 00:37:27 Lisa Pena: ppl clarification 00:37:27 Pari Schacht: What does she charge per hour? 00:37:29 Spring Gunter: Thanks! 00:37:43 Louis Lee: Thanks 00:37:44 Emilie Winston-Cartwright: Thank you! So helpful! 00:37:51 Lisa Pena: PPL if people choose not to return 00:37:56 Pari Schacht: Which states does she work with? 00:38:01 Charlie Biggs: Thank you! 00:38:46 Anne DeMott: It would be great if we could touch on how to handle payments from parents of students for 2020-2021 in consideration of potential school closure 00:39:12 Laura Delgado: Yes, would like to hear more about Anne DeMott’s question. 00:39:34 Kelly Pitoscia-Legiec: Third Anne DeMotts question 00:40:21 Heidi Hewett: I was on a webinar that warned people may carry COVID but not run a temperature 00:40:22 Pari Schacht: I looked at those too, but they seemed not accurate enough. 00:40:31 Laurel Zolfonoon: what is the link? 00:40:34 Pari Schacht: Would love to see the links 00:40:36 Laura Delgado: In our state, we are allowed to have parents take temperatures with their own thermometers at drop-off. 00:40:52 Cathy Newman: Matt, please send me the link. 00:40:55 Lise Riet-Lague: Does the camera remember you each day to monitor a rise in temp? Also are you going to allow parents in the school once you reopen? 00:40:55 Connie Laufersky: I would like to see the link for thermal imaging cameras and electrostatic cleaning machines. 00:41:07 sally amagai: The no contact thermometers do not need to be cleaned in-between use 00:41:09 Tina Patel: Please share the link to imaging cameras 00:41:11 Dave Wysong: Foggers 00:41:39 Christiane Leitinger: They are expensive 00:41:40 sally amagai: what is considered deep-clean exactly? 00:42:08 Kasim Aslam: I'll track down links and share them 00:42:27 Dave Wysong: https://www.shopcleansource.com/store-page/#!/ULV-Fogger-36-Hose-Black/p/82309246 00:42:41 Dave Wysong: They're sold out 00:43:15 Pari Schacht: I’m adding Force Majeure clause to my contracts 00:43:16 Dena Stoneman: Matt, please post what you find on those cameras and clean machines 00:45:20 Brent Berdick - Wheaton Montessori School: that is my question 00:46:32 ELIZABETH WHITAKER: My school's used an electrostatic disinfection fogging service weekly, starting in October. Honestly, we had a brutal flu season, and we didn't notice any reduction in illness. The service is an add-on with our cleaning company, which is a franchise: https://gocitywide.com/ 00:46:33 Connie Laufersky: Our school is doing that 00:46:46 Lise Riet-Lague: We have successfully done that - what do you need to know? 00:48:09 sally amagai: Where did Minca say the survey was posted? 00:48:58 Dave Wysong: That would be great...to see the survey. Thanks 00:49:14 Todd Covert: Matt - Any staff pushback about opening early? 00:50:07 Jim Fitzpatrick: Matt! You’re might open in July and charge families in addition to the tuition they’ve already paid? Parent says, “WHAT! You want me to pay and there hasn’t been school for two months and now you want me to pay more?” 00:50:40 Laura Delgado: What ages does your school serve? Does it include toddlers? 00:50:52 Dee Hirsch: planning for 2020-21 there are new families involved as well. we were fully enrolled for that so I anticipate that we may face a limited attendance that sets up a defacto "first come first served" on committing to a plan, including ongoing and incoming families. 00:51:49 Brent Berdick - Wheaton Montessori School: can we get any info on her home learning plan 00:52:46 Cara Friedline: Can Connie send us some samples of her program? 00:53:08 Lindsey Barnes: Has anyone felt successful with their home learning program for children 0-6? 00:53:08 sally amagai: What age groups are at Connie's school 00:53:20 Brent Berdick - Wheaton Montessori School: we'll take whatever she has ;) 00:53:28 Laura Delgado: I like the idea of home learning as an alternative, but most parents in YCC view childcare as an essential component of their tuition. 00:53:48 Pari Schacht: I’d love to hear more about plans for reopening 00:54:22 Lise Riet-Lague: We have done the same, very successful, full tuition has been paid, has set us up for next year. 00:54:47 Kristin Hannon: This was very different in my small 00:54:47 Dee Hirsch: We are early childhood in a small center of 2 classrooms. Faced with limited attendance I am considering offering parents an online learning and support program - to serve their needs and make use of our potential from staff and resources. 00:54:54 Lise Riet-Lague: To be more organized, everything has been arranged in google classrooms and is available to both students and parents 00:55:14 Kristin Hannon: school because my toddler classroom did not want to distance learning or pay :( 00:55:21 Beth Huffman: For Connie: Are you paying your teachers full salary then to continue doing lessons and plans over summer? our teachers are so looking forward to summer break because they feel burned out. 00:56:10 Kristin Hannon: *It was different for my school 00:56:36 Jim Fitzpatrick: Social Media FB included a posting from Guidepost they now have a complete REMOTE LEARNING curriculum available for Primary-Elementary…fascinating that they big guns come out with a new “product”…anyone know any details about what they have? 00:57:18 Sailini Lohia: Which school is Connie from? 00:57:40 Pari Schacht: Found her: https://www.whiterockmontessori.org/staff 00:58:36 Cara Friedline: has a small amount available for free. You have to pay for individual teacher time and access to parent advise. 00:59:05 Tina Sartori: We have had a very similar experience to Connie. We are moving into our 7th week of home based learning and it has been going very well for all of our students toddler to junior high (330 students). Our provincial government (I am in Ontario, Canada) mandated refunds for students in our toddler and first year primary and then as a school, we chose to refund 50% to the rest of primary and 25% for elementary from Year 1 to 8. All of my teachers and admin are working and making their full salaries. This decision was based on dipping into our reserves (we are a non-profit) in case we do not receive the 75% wage subsidy our government is offering (if you can show a 30% revenue loss), but we believe we will at least get this back to help with operational costs. The home based learning framework is different based on the different developmental levels. 00:59:21 Cara Friedline: Guidepost program regarding above 01:01:20 Jim Fitzpatrick: In the spirit of ‘being in this together’ why is the Guidepost product so expensive? 01:02:08 Monica MacDonald: Is anyone from Guidepost here? 01:04:20 Tina Davidson: you’re absolutely right on! 01:04:34 Lise Riet-Lague: Lise Riet-Lague - lise@chesterfieldmontessori.org Please feel free to reach out if you have questions re: Distance Learning 01:04:47 Cathy Newman: You are correct Kasim! 01:04:52 Dee Hirsch: Guidepost offers to "buy" you school also. Beware. 01:06:10 Dave Wysong: Yes...very helpful. 01:06:17 sally amagai: what about the virtual session 01:06:32 Anne DeMott: It would be great if you are able to offer another session around enrollment agreements! Thank you! 01:06:32 Elizabeth Petruccelli: is there a way to find out where guidepost is planning on opening schools? 01:06:36 Lindsey Barnes: Has anyone received clear guidance from their local licensing department on how many children you may have when you re-open to the general public? How does it compare to your standard capacity? 01:06:39 Dave Wysong: Plans for the fall options: a/b days? 2 or 3 days a week? etc. 01:06:49 Dave Wysong: If this hits again 01:07:00 Monica MacDonald: virtual tours for next one please? 01:07:06 Tracy Walthard: VIrtual tours 01:07:08 Tina Sartori: I am doing virtual ones 01:07:12 Pari Schacht: Yes, virtual tours 01:07:15 Emilie Winston-Cartwright: We appreciate you! Cannot say that enough. Thank you for being a compass in these bumpy waters! 01:07:18 Elizabeth Howe: Lindsey- in Texas only 10 people in a room adults and children 01:07:19 Alejandra Valera: Virtually. 01:07:21 Melanie Newhouse: we are doing virtual tours (Santa Barbara) 01:07:21 Jim Fitzpatrick: Fantastic, Matt, Kasim…thank you for this. 01:07:22 Brooke Ferrand: I'm doing my first virtual tour tomorrow. 01:07:24 Lise Riet-Lague: Virtually 01:07:27 Heidi Geiger: Yes, virtual tours 01:07:36 Tina Patel: We are giving 3-5 tours per week 01:07:41 Christiane Leitinger: Yes, we are doing virtual tours. 01:07:43 Kasim Aslam: Here's the poll! https://www.easypolls.net/poll.html?p=5eab19f4e4b018b4d5fd4101 01:08:03 Dee Hirsch: In WA we have a recommendation from DOH to have group size of 9 with one teacher. Reality for us is that we have 2 teachers ready and families are gradually joining - with 8 first 2 weeks and more planning to return week by week. 01:08:24 Dena Stoneman: enrollment agreement language & reopening tools to guide thinking about all the possibilities 01:09:13 Dee Hirsch: I want to offer a combination of parent guides and enrolling in a parent ed group 01:09:20 Melanie Newhouse: Definitely re-opening 01:09:27 Kasim Aslam: Please complete the poll if you haven't yet! 01:09:28 Kasim Aslam: https://www.easypolls.net/poll.html?p=5eab19f4e4b018b4d5fd4101 01:09:30 Diane Lanci: Thank you very much! 01:09:39 Clara Logan: Thank you! 01:09:40 Dee Hirsch: Please send us notes and contacts if possible 01:09:42 Charlie Biggs: Thank you!
